Supermarket Consultation this Friday and Saturday

There will be an opportunity to register your views and concerns about this project at a consultation on Friday and Saturday. The consultation is being organised by the developer (Newmark Property Investments) and Sainsbury’s PR company (Four Communications).

The consultation will be happening at Abney Public Hall on:

  • Friday 1st July between 3:00pm – 6:00pm and
  • Saturday 2nd July between 9:00am – 1:00pm

We strongly encourage everyone to go down to Abney Public Hall to find out more about the development, talk to the developers, raise any concerns that you have and ask them searching questions about the implications of their proposal. It will also be an excellent opportunity to talk to friends and neighbours from all over the Stoke Newington community and find out what their concerns are.

At the exhibition, the developers have a questionnaire that asks questions like ? is it important to create new jobs ? is it important to develop new homes ? Well of course the answer is yes. But the questions like ‘is it important that Stoke Newington, particularly Church Street keep its unique characteristics?’ or ‘do we want to keep our independent retailers?’ are missing.

At the end of the day, the developers want to issue a press release saying something like 4 out of 5 people want to create new jobs by building a supermarket. That’s why it is important to respond to the consultation and mark all the developers priorities as LOW even though that might not be our instinctive reaction.
